Types of ESA’s

Overview

Bio-synergy offers a wide variety of Environmental Site Assessments. Each type of assessment targets a specific inquiry and may be implemented separately or in combination in order to satisfy each specific site assessment.

Types of Assessments

  • Pre-disturbance Site Assessment - This assessment is conducted after the site has been surveyed and before construction or development. Biotic and abiotic components of the site will be observed, sampled and recorded. This assessment will provide essential baseline data for future reference.
  • Phase I ESA (compliance with CSA and AENV standards) - The purpose of a Phase I ESA is to identify actual or potential site contamination. This identification is a product of evaluating and reporting relevant information collected through a records review, a site visit, and multiple interviews.
  • Phase II ESA (compliance with CSA and AENV standards) - The purpose of a phase II ESA is to confirm the presence of and characterize the substances of concern at a given site. Assessment may range from simple substance identification to a detailed analytical investigation of the site.
  • Phase III ESA - If a Phase II ESA indicates contamination levels above criteria site remedial measures (Phase III ESA) must be taken. Bio-synergy offers a wide variety of treatments each targeting specific environmental conditions.
  • Reclamation Detailed Site Assessments - These assessments are required by Alberta Environment (AENV) prior to the application for a reclamation certificate. Biosynergy will conduct accurate assessments providing clients with a reliable interpretation of overall site conditions in regards to reclamation completion.
  • Environmental Field Report (EFR) - The intent of the EFR is to provide the client with site-specific details as to how environmental issues may be addressed during the construction, operation and reclamation phases of the development. This will allow the client to maintain a level of environmental integrity throughout all stages of the project.
  • Site Information Reports (SIR) - Upon application for oil and gas activities in environmentally sensitive areas such as on White Area public land, more detailed assessments are required. An SIR conducted by Bio-synergy will help achieve this level of evaluation.
