Waste Treatment Facility

Overview

Bio-synergy was contracted by a client to establish a central waste treatment facility. This treatment facility received and remediated contaminated soil generated by this client. The treatment of the contaminated soil involved utilization of an array of mechanical and bio-remedial measures. Material was processed until it met unconditional criteria for hydrocarbons under the Alberta Environment Guidelines.

Project Summary

  • Application for registration with Alberta Environment;
  • Achieved regulatory compliance under the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act;
  • Site safety - top priority;
  • Site construction;
  • Processing and placement of impacted soil onto treatment infrastructure;
  • Treatment of selected material;
  • All supervision and reporting;
  • Confirmatory sampling at the completion of the project;
  • Analytical interpretation;
  • Final placement of the material on-site;
  • Water handling;
  • Providing adequate signage and barriers as required and
  • Final report submission.

Results and Advantages

  • Remediation at a waste treatment facility reduces the need to landfill large amounts of petroleum hydrocarbon contaminated soil.
  • Waste treatment facilities are positioned strategically, therefore they can accommodate a large geographic area or specified location in the most cost effective manner.
  • Due to storage capabilities, a waste management facility can accumulate small volumes of contaminated soil. This results in a cost effective solution to treating small volumes.
  • Regulatory guidelines and compliance are already established, this reduces initial time required to treat contaminated soil.
  • Client liability is completely eliminated upon successful treatment of the contaminants.
